Joseph Daniel "Joe" Anthofer, 82, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on February 11, 2026. Joe was born on June 21, 1943, in Stratton, Colorado, to Mary and Joseph Anthofer. He grew up in Stratton and graduated from Stratton High School before moving to Omaha where he attended and graduated from Creighton University and Creighton University School of Law.
After receiving his law degree, Joe joined the US Army where he proudly served for two years and was based in Panama for much of this time. After moving back to Omaha, he met the love of his life, Patricia Treblik. Joe and Pat were married on July 8, 1973, and soon after, he began a 30-year career as a corporate attorney with Union Pacific Railroad.
Joe and Pat were blessed with three children—Brad, Mike, and Kathleen. Joe dedicated much of his early years in Omaha to supporting his children’s many activities, whether cheering from the sidelines or stepping in as a coach. His family was always at the center of his life.
Joe retired from Union Pacific in 1998, embracing a well deserved next chapter filled with travel, hobbies, and the freedom to enjoy the things he loved most. He and Pat especially treasured their many trips to Arizona, where they visited friends and family and soaked in the warm desert winters. Joe also cherished time spent outdoors, and he rarely passed up a chance to cast a fishing line into the water. He also loved spending his time outside enjoying the weather on the porch, grilling, and listening to his favorite music.
One of the greatest joys of Joe’s retirement was becoming a grandfather. He adored his ten grandchildren—Tyler, Leah, Makenna, Cole, Sara, Kylah, Carter, Hayley, Fulton, and Caden—and attended as many of their activities and sporting events as his health allowed. His pride in them was immeasurable.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Anthofer; his sister, Elaine Slack; and his parents in law, Floyd and Agnes Treblik.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat Anthofer; sons Brad (Michelle) Anthofer and Mike (Kelly) Anthofer; daughter Kathleen Anthofer; his ten beloved grandchildren; nephews Kurt Krueger and Kraig Krueger; niece Konnie Wood; and many other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
VIGIL: Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 7:00 PM with VISITATION beginning at 6:00 PM at West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, Omaha.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Thursday, February 19,10:30AM, St. James Catholic Church, 4710 N. 90th St., Omaha.
